Project Pan Round 1 FINALE

So, this is the end of Round 1 for my project pan. I’ll be telling you about my progress on the products I have left, tell you if they’ll be kept for Round 2 and also tell you my thoughts and tips for a successful project pan.

I know I haven’t posted in a while but it’s just because I don’t have that much to show you. There’s only 2 products left and one of them I have to throw in the bin. It’s changed smell and doesn’t perform as well as when I got it, a couple years ago. And also, it’s a new year, I didn’t want to carry this Project Pan to 2015. I actually thought I would be done with it long ago, but surprise surprise – I didn’t. I started it in March and have gone through a lot of products but it took me awhile too. So here is the round up of my products:

The Project Pan Questionnaire

I decided to do this TAG that was created by Megan from megsmakeup8 on youtube. The questions are:

1: Why did you start Project Panning?

A: I felt like I had so much makeup and almost none of it was getting used, so I had to come up with a strategy to make myself use up some products.

2: What is the most rewarding part of Project Panning?

A: Finishing up a product, definitely!

3: What is the most challenging part of Project Panning?

A: Sticking to the same product day after day (for me it’s blush, even though I love the one I picked for round 1). I sometimes just wanna put something else on my face but I’m afraid that I’ll get off track with my Project Pan and it will take much longer to use up that product.

4: How many Project Pans have you done? Do you plan on doing more?

A: I’m currently on my first round of PP and I’ll definitely do some more – there are still A LOT of products to be used.

5: Are you also doing any other projects in addition to Project Pan? (i.e. Pan That Palette, Finish 5 By Fall, etc.)

A: Not officially, but I am trying to hit pan on a powder eyeshadow (2, to be exact) ’cause that will be a first for me.

6: Do you limit your spending or go on a No Buy while on Project Pan?

A: I’m technically on a No Buy, but that hasn’t gone too well for me, as you probably know.

7: Who are your favorite Project Panners to watch?

A: Megsmakeup8 (the creator of this tag – I absolutely LOVE her videos), PrettyPistol86 (such a gorgeous girl, she’s doing really well on her PP), MiuMiu G, who’s going through her non cruelty free items and plans to be almost 100% cruelty free by the beggining of 2015 I think, and Amber F. Amber F is project panning hyped up products on Youtube and was actually the one who inspired me to start blogging about project pan and her Pan that Palette challenge is awesome. You have to check out her progress on the Naked palette. It’s crazy. If you don’t know any of these women you should check ’em out!

8: What is your #1 tip for a successful Project Pan?

A: Keep everything in sight and make a point of using everything! Soon it will become routine and you won’t forget to use the selected products.

9: What is your goal for your makeup collection through Project Panning?

A: Using up some items, being more aware of expiration dates (trying to use up items before they go bad), thinking more about the way I spend my money when it comes to makeup (and everything else) – doing more research about products that I want to buy – and ultimately, have a smaller, more manageable makeup collection.

10: Which Project Panners do you tag to do this questionnaire next?

A: I’m not gonna tag anyone specifically but if you decide to do this tag, please let me know in the comments!

My experience with Back 2 MAC (AKA how I managed to cheat again on my no buy)

So, this past weekend I went shopping with my mother and I had to stop by at the MAC counter to buy a new Fix+ since my ELF Mist and Set was pretty much gone (and I just can’t live without a makeup setting spray, since I use mostly powder foundation). I decided to bring along my 6 empty containers just in case they had Rebel lipstick in stock. This lipstick has been all the rage in Brazil this fall and winter since many famous actresses have been wearing it, so it had been out of stock for months in MAC‘s and Sephora‘s websites (our Sephora online sells MAC!) and the counter in my town.

I had left my phone number for them to call me when it got back in stock, but since they didn’t, I thought it hadn’t come back. So I went there, asked for my Fix+ and asked when was Rebel coming back to stock, and to my surprise, they had it in store. They said there were like 80 people that had asked for them to call when they had it back, so they hadn’t managed yet to call everybody (and 150 people waiting for Flat Out Fabulous! Can you believe it?). So I decided to try it on and it’s just as gorgeous as everybody says it is. I tried Diva as well, but since I already own a red lipstick, I decided to go with Rebel. So I gave them my 6 empties and got my free lippie! This is so amazing, specially because we have to pay 30 US dollars for a MAC lipstick in Brazil. And also I had heard that they put a mark on your lipstick tube so you wouldn’t be able to back 2 MAC the free lipstick, but I didn’t see them do any of that. Do you know it that’s true?

Anyways, here is the trash I left at the counter:

And here is the goooorgeous lipstick that came home with me:

It’s an amazing color, truly special since it sometimes looks red and sometimes purple. It leaves a stain on your lips when it wears off, and it’s hard to remove that stain from your lips.

I’m really glad I got it, since I had been wanting it ever since it started getting cold here. Now I have it!

So that’s the story of how I managed to break my no buy again… I’m so bad at this “not getting new makeup” thing. But I do feel like I do my research much better now, and I only buy things I know I’ll really use. That’s it for me. Sorry for the longest story ever.

What is your favorite MAC lipstick?

Breaking my no buy!

So, it happened. I broke my no buy. It wasn’t just “cheating” as I called the other times I got new stuff, this time I officially broke it. I went to the store and actually bought something I did not need, and I gotta say:

I don’t know, I guess it isn’t the end of the world if I buy a new product, right? I didn’t feel bad about it, because it wasn’t an impulse buy, it was a product I had been wanting to buy for many months now. So the other day I went to the quem disse berenice (brazilian makeup brand) store because they were having a 50% off sale for all makeup removers, so I had to get them, I bought 3. One of them is a facial soap that is supposed to take off your makeup as well, one is a regular liquid makeup remover that I had already tried out in the store and is very good, and the other are makeup wipes which are only OK.

Since the World Cup is in Brazil this year and soccer (or football) is a huge deal here, the makeup brand was giving out 20% discount on all green, yellow and blue products (because they’re Brazil’s colors), and this eyeshadow I got is a blueish green, so it had 20% off. Since I knew I would buy it some day, I decided to take advantage of the sale. It is not and everyday eyeshadow but it’s gorgeous and I had never seen any eyeshadow like this. It was a great buy. I couldn’t get any good swatches, though.

So, a quick update I’m adding to the post a couple days later. The other day I went back to the same store and I HAD to buy 4 pencil eyeliners because they were half off. They are such gorgeous, colorful shades. Here are  swatches:

Because I did so poorly on my no buy, my new no buy rule now is: I have to finish 10 items before I buy something new (2 items for each one that I bought) and if I happen to get something as a gift, I’ll have to finish 2 more. Hopefully I can do better the second time around. Wish me luck!

Project Pan Round 1 – Update #8

1 – MAC Lipglass in Pink Lemonade: I’ve been using it everyday paired with Please Me.

2 – MAC Plushglass in Bubble Tea: I haven’t used it this week.

3 – Contém 1g (brazilian brand) Lip Pencil in Pele Rosado (or Flesh Pink): I haven’t used it this week.

4 – MAC Lipstick in Please Me: I’ve used it everyday, I’ve made quite a dent on this lipstick so far.

5 – Shiseido Sun Protection Eye Cream SPF 32: I’ve been using it everyday.

6 – Benefit Ooh La Lift: I’ve used it everyday.

7 – Benefit Erase Paste in number 2 (medium): Finished it March 27th

#7 Replacements: NARS Radiant Creamy concealer in Honey and NYX HD concealer in Light: I’ve used both concealers everyday.

8 – Benefit Eyebrow Pencil in Medium: Finished it last week, May 9th, I believe.

9 – Benefit Eye Bright: Used it up April 11th.

10 – Benefit Porefessional: I’ve been using it everyday, it is almost gone.

11 – NARS Orgasm blush: I’ve been using it everyday, I’m not sure if it’s going to be possible to see progress from now on, because it became very powdery after the fall.

NARS Orgasm blush

12 – Bare Minerals Original Foundation in Light (deluxe size): used it up March 21st.

13 – Maybelline Great Lash mascara Lots of Lashes in brownish black: I’ve been using it everyday and am really surprised about how long it is taking this mascara to dry up. It’s been open for so long and I’ve been using it everyday for the past 2 months and it’s shown no signs of drying up.

14 – Shiseido Perfect Mascara: I haven’t used it.

15 – Maybelline The Colossal:  I haven’t used it.

16 – Benefit Bad Gal mascara sample: I used it up April 24th.

This week I finally bought that blush I talked about on my introduction post. The Fantasy of Flowers collection by MAC finally came to Brazil and I snatched up the Petal Power blush. It was the only makeup product I decided to allow myself to buy during my no buy because of the fact that it was limited edition. I haven’t used it yet because I’m focusing on finishing up my NARS Orgasm but they are very similar shades, so I’ll have a replacement when I finish the NARS one.

I think I’m doing pretty well on my project pan, don’t you? I believe in a week or two I’ll have some more finished products to show you.

Fixing broken products

A couple weeks ago I accidentally dropped my Lee Stafford “Blow dry your hair faster”, and the spritzer was unfixable. I was really sad about it because the product was in the beginning, I was only using it for a few months and thought I would have to toss it. My boyfriend then gave me the idea to depot it in another container, which I did, and the product kept working just fine.

So the other day I was organizing my makeup collection and saw my full size Benefit Stay Don’t Stray that I was thinking about tossing. It is a product I swear by because of a sample I got a long time ago, but when I got the full size, the product came all messed up. I didn’t want to go through the hassle of returning it to Sephora online (there’s no Sephora store in my town), which I should have, because they sent me a bad product. The water part of it was always separated from the rest of the product, no matter how long I shook the bottle, so it was really hard to use.

Then, inspired by what happened with my hair product, I had the idea of depotting it, put it in an old Erase Paste jar, took the water off, stirred it with a little spatula and the product was as good as new! I was so happy about it, because it wasn’t a complete waste of money. Hopefully this will inspire us all to keep finding solutions for our problematic products, instead of just giving up and tossing them.

Has something like that ever happened to you? Did you find a solution for it?

Cheating on my “no buy”?

When I started this Project Pan I decided I was going on a no buy indefinitely, because I feel like I’m drowning in makeup and won’t use up everything I have.

So before I show you what I got, I’ll just say that I didn’t TECHNICALLY cheat, because I didn’t pay for what I got. This brazilian makeup brand called “quem disse berenice”  had this promotion last week in which you brought in to their store and gave them an old lipstick from any brand and in exchange you would get any of their lipsticks in a specific line, which was their creamy lipsticks. You had 89 shades to chose from and I chose a pink shade, that some people say is a dupe for MAC’s Girl About Town and a coral shade that leans very orange on the lips.

Batons quem disse berenice

This is the shade “Rosadona”. It is gorgeous on the lips. As you can see, the bullet of the lipstick has the expression “se joga” written on it, which I would translate to “go for it”, and it has a heart on top. The packaging also has hearts all over it, it’s really cute.

The shade “Coralosa” is a coral shade that leans very orange on the lips, as I’ve said before. The lasting power on them isn’t great because they are creamy but both feel very hydrating on the lips.

I don’t feel guilty or anything because I gave away 2 very old lipsticks that weren’t being used and weren’t going to be used and exchanged them for 2 new lipsticks, without spending a dime. And also it wasn’t like I was adding 2 lipsticks to my collection, since I was giving 2 away (although technically one of the lipsticks was my mom’s), so technically my collection hasn’t gotten bigger? Lol. That’s a makeup addict’s excuse, right there. I guess I just couldn’t pass up a free quality lipstick like that…

I’m happy because both shades are very different than what I already had. I don’t love the fact that they’re creamy, I prefer matte lipsticks, but the pink shade specially is incredibly gorgeous. It really pulls a look together.

In your opinion, would you say I cheated on my no buy?
