Fixing broken products

A couple weeks ago I accidentally dropped my Lee Stafford “Blow dry your hair faster”, and the spritzer was unfixable. I was really sad about it because the product was in the beginning, I was only using it for a few months and thought I would have to toss it. My boyfriend then gave me the idea to depot it in another container, which I did, and the product kept working just fine.

So the other day I was organizing my makeup collection and saw my full size Benefit Stay Don’t Stray that I was thinking about tossing. It is a product I swear by because of a sample I got a long time ago, but when I got the full size, the product came all messed up. I didn’t want to go through the hassle of returning it to Sephora online (there’s no Sephora store in my town), which I should have, because they sent me a bad product. The water part of it was always separated from the rest of the product, no matter how long I shook the bottle, so it was really hard to use.

Then, inspired by what happened with my hair product, I had the idea of depotting it, put it in an old Erase Paste jar, took the water off, stirred it with a little spatula and the product was as good as new! I was so happy about it, because it wasn’t a complete waste of money. Hopefully this will inspire us all to keep finding solutions for our problematic products, instead of just giving up and tossing them.

Has something like that ever happened to you? Did you find a solution for it?

Project Pan Round 1 – Update #5

So, this week I don’t have a really exciting update. I haven’t finished any more products and my routine has been the same since last week, but here is the update:

1- MAC Lipglass in Pink Lemonade: Same as last week, haven’t used it at all.

2 – MAC Plushglass in Bubble Tea: Haven’t used it.

3 – Contém 1g (brazilian brand) Lip Pencil in Pele Rosado (or Flesh Pink): Haven’t used it.

4 – MAC Lipstick in Please Me: I’ve been using it everyday.

MAC Please Me

5 – Shiseido Sun Protection Eye Cream SPF 32: I have been using it everyday. I feel like there’s progress since week 1.

6 – Benefit Ooh La Lift: I’ve been using it everyday and there’s still no end in sight.

7 – Benefit Erase Paste in number 2 (medium): Finished it March 27th.

#7 Replacements: NARS radiant Creamy concealer in Honey and NYX HD Concealer in Light: I haven’t been loving the way the way NYX concealer looks on my face for some reason, so I’ve only been using the NARS one (and loving it).

8 – Benefit Eyebrow Pencil in Medium: It was impossible to sharpen it with a makeup sharpener, so I decided to sharpen it with a regular sharpened, which kinda worked, but it sharpened a bit too much. I have been using it like that, very gently because it will very likely break.

9 – Benefit Eye Bright: Used it up April 11th.

10 – Benefit Porefessional: I have been using it pretty much everyday and I believe it’s really ending now.

11 – NARS Orgasm blush: I’ve been using it everyday. I think I’m making progress.

NARS Orgasm Blush

12 – Bare Minerals Original Foundation in Light (deluxe size): used it up March 21st.

13 – Maybelline Great Lash mascara Lots of Lashes in brownish black: I have been using it everyday and can’t believe it hasn’t dried up yet, it’s been opened for so long!

14 – Shiseido Perfect Mascara: Haven’t used it but still haven’t tossed it.

15 – Maybelline The Colossal: Haven’t used it.

16 – Benefit Bad Gal mascara sample: I’ve decided to toss it because it is dried up. So, finished it April 24th.

I haven’t made any remarkable progress this week, but since I’ve been researching other makeup enthusiasts that are doing or have done project pans, I’ve been getting more excited about doing this. Also I’m doing a project pan (project use up maybe?) with my body  and hand lotions, and am about to finish my 3rd tub of body lotion since I’ve started it, so this makes me more excited to use up my makeup as well.

Cheating on my “no buy”?

When I started this Project Pan I decided I was going on a no buy indefinitely, because I feel like I’m drowning in makeup and won’t use up everything I have.

So before I show you what I got, I’ll just say that I didn’t TECHNICALLY cheat, because I didn’t pay for what I got. This brazilian makeup brand called “quem disse berenice”  had this promotion last week in which you brought in to their store and gave them an old lipstick from any brand and in exchange you would get any of their lipsticks in a specific line, which was their creamy lipsticks. You had 89 shades to chose from and I chose a pink shade, that some people say is a dupe for MAC’s Girl About Town and a coral shade that leans very orange on the lips.

Batons quem disse berenice

This is the shade “Rosadona”. It is gorgeous on the lips. As you can see, the bullet of the lipstick has the expression “se joga” written on it, which I would translate to “go for it”, and it has a heart on top. The packaging also has hearts all over it, it’s really cute.

The shade “Coralosa” is a coral shade that leans very orange on the lips, as I’ve said before. The lasting power on them isn’t great because they are creamy but both feel very hydrating on the lips.

I don’t feel guilty or anything because I gave away 2 very old lipsticks that weren’t being used and weren’t going to be used and exchanged them for 2 new lipsticks, without spending a dime. And also it wasn’t like I was adding 2 lipsticks to my collection, since I was giving 2 away (although technically one of the lipsticks was my mom’s), so technically my collection hasn’t gotten bigger? Lol. That’s a makeup addict’s excuse, right there. I guess I just couldn’t pass up a free quality lipstick like that…

I’m happy because both shades are very different than what I already had. I don’t love the fact that they’re creamy, I prefer matte lipsticks, but the pink shade specially is incredibly gorgeous. It really pulls a look together.

In your opinion, would you say I cheated on my no buy?

Project Pan Round 1 – Update #4

This week I don’t really have an exciting update for you. I haven’t finished any new products, and haven’t changed my routine since last week.

1- MAC Lipglass in Pink Lemonade: I haven’t used it this week, I’ve been focusing on using up my lipstick.

2 – MAC Plushglass in Bubble Tea: Same as Pink Lemonade.

3 – Contém 1g (brazilian brand) Lip Pencil in Pele Rosado (or Flesh Pink): I haven’t used it this week.

4 – MAC Lipstick in Please Me: I’ve used it everyday this week.

5 – Shiseido Sun Protection Eye Cream SPF 32: I’ve been using it daily.

6 – Benefit Ooh La Lift: I have been using it everyday.

7 – Benefit Erase Paste in number 2 (medium): Finished it March 27th.

#7 Replacements: NARS radiant Creamy concealer in Honey and NYX HD Concealer in Light: I have been using the NARS one the most, I rarely used the NYX one.

8 – Benefit Eyebrow Pencil in Medium: I can’t sharpen it anymore with a regular sharpener. I’ll try something else, because I want to finish it up, until there’s no more product left. I believe I can still use it for a couple of days.

9 – Benefit Eye Bright: Used it up April 11th.

10 – Benefit Porefessional: I have been using it every day of the week and I don’t know how much is left.

11 – NARS Orgasm blush: I have been using it everyday. I believe there’s even more pan showing.

NARS Orgasm Blush

12 – Bare Minerals Original Foundation in Light (deluxe size): used it up March 21st.

13 – Maybelline Great Lash mascara Lots of Lashes in brownish black: I have been using it everyday.

14 – Shiseido Perfect Mascara: I haven’t touched this yet and probably will give it away .

15 – Maybelline The Colossal: I haven’t used it this week, I’m waiting for the Great Lash to be gone so I can focus on this one.

16 – Benefit Bad Gal mascara sample: I have been using it everyday, but I think I should toss it soon.

Project Pan Round 1 – Update #3

1- MAC Lipglass in Pink Lemonade: I haven’t used it this week, I’ve been focusing on using up my lipstick.

2 – MAC Plushglass in Bubble Tea: Only used it once this week, paired with my lip pencil.

3 – Contém 1g (brazilian brand) Lip Pencil in Pele Rosado (or Flesh Pink): Used it once this week.

4 – MAC Lipstick in Please Me: I used it most days of this week. I think there’s a visible difference.

MAC Please Me

5 – Shiseido Sun Protection Eye Cream SPF 32: My eye irritation is gone, so I have used it every day of this week.

6 – Benefit Ooh La Lift: I have been using it everyday and I have no idea how much is left.

7 – Benefit Erase Paste in number 2 (medium): Finished it March 27th.

#7 Replacements: NARS radiant Creamy concealer in Honey and NYX HD Concealer in Light: I have been using the NARS one the most, I use it everyday, but both have been used this week.

8 – Benefit Eyebrow Pencil in Medium: It’s getting impossible to sharpen. I believe it is its last week on this project pan.

Benefit Eyebrow Pencil
9 – Benefit Eye Bright: I used it everyday this week and I actually liked the way it looked. Then yesterday I had to sharpen it for the second time this week, the tip broke off and the product was gone. – Used it up April 11th.

10 – Benefit Porefessional: I have been using it every day of the week and I don’t know how much is left.

11 – NARS Orgasm blush: I have been using it everyday and this week I really enjoyed it.

12 – Bare Minerals Original Foundation in Light (deluxe size): used it up March 21st.

13 – Maybelline Great Lash mascara Lots of Lashes in brownish black: I have been using it everyday, just the way I explained on the last update and have been enjoying it.

14 – Shiseido Perfect Mascara: I haven’t touched this yet and probably won’t.

15 – Maybelline The Colossal: I haven’t used it this week, I’m waiting for the Great Lash to be gone so I can focus on this one.

16 – Benefit Bad Gal mascara sample: I have been using it everyday.

I decided to end this Round 1 whenever I finish up my Great Lash mascara, because I’ve used up many products already and I want to include some others soon in my project pan and exclude some I know I won’t use. Some of the products will continued on Round 2 and some won’t.

Project Pan Round 1 – Update #2

It’s time for the second update of round 1!

All products

1- MAC Lipglass in Pink Lemonade: As you can see, I’ve marked where I am with both this product and Bubble Tea, so it’s easier to see progress. I haven’t used it this week though, I’ve been more into my lipstick.

Pink Lemonade

2 – MAC Plushglass in Bubble Tea: Same as Pink Lemonade.

Bubble Tea

3 – Contém 1g (brazilian brand) Lip Pencil in Pele Rosado (or Flesh Pink): Haven’t used it, because I only use it paired up with my lipglosses.

Lápis Contém 1g

4 – MAC Lipstick in Please Me: I have been using it all week, I think there’s a visible difference compared to last week’s picture (the color’s a bit off, but it’s the same lipstick).

Please Me

5 – Shiseido Sun Protection Eye Cream SPF 32: I haven’t been using it because I had some irritation in my eyes, so I’ve been avoiding putting some stuff near it.

6 – Benefit Ooh La Lift: I have been using this everyday, it feels like there’s no end in sight! I’ll be glad when it’s gone.

7 – Benefit Erase Paste in number 2 (medium):  Finished it March 27th.

#7 Replacements: NARS radiant Creamy concealer  in Honey and NYX HD Concealer in Light: I have been using them everyday, the NYX one buffed in my inner corner for a touch of brightness and then I buff the NARS concealer on my under eye. It works great, I think there’s still a way to go with both of them (it’s hard to tell with the NARS concealer – but it feels like it’s getting towards the end of its life) and I am enjoying the results. I top them with my Bobbi Brown pale yellow powder, and it looks flawless.

8 – Benefit Eyebrow Pencil in Medium: I have been using it everyday, I think it will be gone in a week, two weeks tops, because it’s getting really difficult to sharpen.

Benefit Eyebrow Pencil

9 – Benefit Eye Bright: Still haven’t touched it. Any suggestions on how to use it, so I can insert this in my routine?

Benefit Eye Bright

10 – Benefit Porefessional: I’ve been using this everyday on areas I feel my pores are enlarged, which is on my cheeks, near my nose. Since it’s a small area, I don’t need a lot of the product, so it still has a way to go, I believe.

11 – NARS Orgasm blush: I have been wearing it everyday and am starting to get a bit tired of it. I believe there’s some more pan showing this week.

Nars Orgasm Blush

12 – Bare Minerals Original Foundation in Light (deluxe size): used it up March 21st.

13 – Maybelline Great Lash mascara Lots of Lashes in brownish black: I’ve been wearing it everyday, after I put on my ELF eyelash primer, and this week, for some reason, the result hasn’t been great. Normally it makes my lashes look super long and beautiful but this week it hasn’t been working.

Greatlash

14 – Shiseido Perfect Mascara: Still haven’t touched it. I’m thinking about taking it off project pan and just saving it as a mascara to use on other people when I do their makeup.

15 – Maybelline The Colossal: I’m focused on using up Great Lash, so haven’t touched this.

Maybelline Colossal

16 – Benefit Bad Gal mascara sample: even though it is a bit dried up, it still helps to add volume to my lashes when I wear it paired up with my ELF eyelash primer and Maybelline Great Lash mascara.

This week hasn’t been so exciting for me, maybe because I haven’t finished any products.

Do you have any tips on how to do project pan and enjoy it?

Tarte Airbuki Bamboo Powder Foundation Brush – Review

This week I won’t have any project pan products to review, since I haven’t finished any more of them (the update is coming soon!), so I decided to review a brush that I have been loving, the Tarte Airbuki Bamboo Powder Foundation Brush.

This brush was made to be used with the Amazonian Clay Airbrush Foundation ($36), which I haven’t used yet because I have other powder foundations to use up before this one.

The brush is very dense, as you can see in the pictures below, more dense than regular kabukis, which delivers a very full cover. I personally like the look it gives, it does look flawless in my opinion. It may make the skin look a bit flat, because powders make the skin more matte than liquid foundations, but a shimmery blush, a highlighter or finishing the makeup with MAC Fix Plus will help with that, making the skin look a bit more dewey or luminous.

It is a beautiful brush, the bristles are very soft, and they do pick up a lot of product, it feels like product gets stuck in the bristles, which might seem wasteful, but that’s not a big issue for me because of the finished look. Also, I haven’t noticed any bristles falling off.

It is a very expensive brush in my opinion ($26) and it is hard to clean because the bristles are very short, so water does get to the bamboo part, which makes me afraid it might ruin the brush. I do recommend it if you love brushes, use powder foundations regularly and like a full coverage foundation.

I honestly don’t know if you can use it with liquid foundation.

Have you tried this brush? If so, do you like it?
